A 48-year-old man has been charged over a number of child sex assaults that were allegedly committed in Sydney when he was a teenager.

Police have been investigating the alleged sexual assaults of a five-year-old girl and two boys aged eight and 10 in the Redfern and Marrickville areas in 1975 and 1976.

The man was arrested yesterday at Taree, on the New South Wales-mid north coast, and charged with a range of sex offences.

He has been released on bail to face Taree Local Court on October 21.
