Alliance rejects Killalea award short-listing

Posted September 26, 2008 12:44:00

The Save Killalea Alliance has rejected the short-listing of the Killalea State Park Trust for an award.

The trust, which manages the Killalea State Park at Shellharbour, has been short-listed for a Regional Achievement and Community Award.

The award is sponsored by the Department of Lands which has overseen the lease of three portions of the park to the private sector.

Save Killalea Alliance spokeswoman Mairi Peterson says by allowing the leasing arrangement to go ahead, the trust has not acted to protect the park.

"The trust is supposed to be there to look after that land for the community and to preserve and protect it, but it is not doing that by asking for that lease to happen," she said.
