Hornet fighter makes emergency landing

Posted September 26, 2008 17:46:00

An RAAF Hornet fighter has declared a mayday and made an emergency landing at Williamtown air base near Newcastle.

The incident occurred shortly after midday.

The emergency procedure put in place at the air base included the use of a cable to help stop the plane and foam to help reduce the risk of fire from a fuel leak.

An investigation into the causes of the incident is now underway.

Nobody was injured.
