Rape victim welcomes case breakthrough

Posted September 30, 2008 00:22:00

A woman who was raped more than two decades ago has welcomed a police breakthrough in her case.

The woman was 16 years old in 1987 when she was raped at her home in Kalgoorlie.

WA police have used DNA technology to examine exhibits taken from the crime scene and are expected to charge 41-year-old Paul James Carr with the assault.

He is currently serving time in a New South Wales prison

The victim says she was surprised to hear police had re-opened her case.

"I thought after all this time it would have all been forgotten about, but obviously it wasn't," she said.

"So I guess it was a surprise mostly but also a relief to know that they still were looking at it and they were going to get a result."

"It still hasn't gone away obviously ... and I'll be very glad when it's over and done with, including the court case and everything, then maybe I can finally just put it to rest."
