Industrial unrest postpones elective surgery

Posted September 30, 2008 14:00:00

The district manager of the Toowoomba Base Hospital says one case of elective surgery has had to be postponed until tomorrow.

Ms McKay says about 50 staff have taken some form of industrial action, joining thousands of hospital workers across Queensland striking for two hours as part of an ongoing wages dispute.

"Our contingency plans are in place and working, with lots of our management staff assisting, and other staff who aren't participating in the work bans going the extra step," she said.

She says unions have guaranteed a skeleton staff for emergency cases.
