Farmers to be made aware of drought aid

Posted October 3, 2008 08:00:00

People in the St Arnaud district will be the target of a program aiming to help drought affected farmers get access to the help that is available.

The Farm Gate initiative was trialled previously and involves various agencies visiting landowners to talk about drought support.

The Northern Grampians Shire's Michael Bailey says some farmers will still be unaware of the support that is available.

"When we reassessed the pilot program we found that while not all farmers were home, some 63 out of the 97 that were home, some of them still hadn't received some information that we've been trying to put out and that's not anyone's fault, but we've just got to try to distribute it as much as we can," he said.
