Chelsea boosted by Drogba injury bulletin

Posted October 3, 2008 09:03:00

Injured Chelsea striker Didier Drogba is expected to face only a short spell on the sidelines, the club has announced.

Drogba left the stadium in Transylvania with his right leg in a brace after yesterday's goalless Champions League draw against Romanian side Cluj.

He had a scan and the results showed that Drogba sustained no significant ligament damage.

If he had sustained a major ligament injury, Chelsea would have been forced to cope without its first-choice frontman for several months.

"Didier Drogba has had two forceful rotations in his knee and ankle. Fortunately, he has avoided any significant ligamentus rupture," a Chelsea statement said.

"He will not be requiring surgery. We will keep him under observation before putting an estimate on how long he'll be out, but we're certainly looking at weeks, not months."
