Man arrested over copper theft

Posted October 3, 2008 11:00:00

Police have arrested and charged a 44-year-old man for stealing 600 kilograms of industrial copper from a metal plant at Unanderra.

The theft occurred on Tuesday night when the work site was broken into and a forklift was used to load the copper into a trailer attached to a car.

Police say the accused works for a transport business moving freight from Wollongong to Port Kembla and Botany.

The man was arrested in Port Kembla last night.

He faces charges of larceny, stolen property and possession of a prohibited drug.
