Fishing Co-op pushes marina development

Posted October 3, 2008 11:42:00

There are further moves to expand the tourist industry at a New South Wales far south coast fishing port.

Eden's Twofold Bay Fishing Co-operative wants to build a breakwater wall at Snug Cove to provide an all-weather marina in a bid to attract high-end tourism to the town.

The NSW Government recently approved a $55 million hotel and residential development in the wharf area.

Co-operative chairman Fritz Drenkharn says the town needs to take every opportunity to ramp up its appeal to visitors.

"We've got full support of business people in the town because they can see something like that being a huge catalysis for a marina of two or three hundred boats," he said.

"That would ... kick start all the development down the wharf area and also kick start the areas of the town and the businesses in the town."
