Call for new Wellington tourist route

Posted October 3, 2008 12:04:00

A plan is being mooted to construct a sealed road between the Parkes observatory and Wellington.

A business group says tourists need an easier way to travel between Dubbo's zoo, the telescope and Wellington Caves.

Tony Graham, from Wellington Development Incorporated, says the link road would connect the observatory to Renshaw-McGirr Way.

He says it would greatly benefit tourism operators.

"As a region we are competing against other regions for tourism," he said.

"We have to be in the game and that means we have to get our infrastructure right. I think it's a fairly simple concept and the sooner we get on with addressing this issue the better."

Mr Graham says moves should be made to identify possible routes.

"I think that there's some funds available in the Federal Government's infrastructure revamp which perhaps could go towards this," he said.

"I know that they're looking to join up tourism attractions all over Australia, so this is something they might want to look at."
