Former Socceroos captain Mark Viduka says he is frustrated by an ongoing injury which has brought him back to Australia for treatment.

The striker has yet to play for his English Premier League club Newcastle United this season due to an achilles injury.

The 32-year-old has returned to Melbourne in the hope of getting the injury fixed.

Viduka says he wants to return to the field for Newcastle and Australia.

"I just want to get playing again, I want to be playing and contributing to my club and my team-mates," he said.

"I want to get my injury right and get back in a black and white shirt, and hopefully an Aussie shirt after that."
