Senator Xenophon is calling on the Governor to visit the Riverland

South Australian Senator Nick Xenophon says he cannot understand why the Governor-General has not included the Riverland as part of her tour of the Murray-Darling Basin.

Quentin Bryce will visit parts of the Murray-Darling, including the Lower Lakes, to learn more about the drought-affected region, but she is bypassing the Riverland.

Senator Xenophon says he has written to Ms Bryce asking her to reconsider.

"The official statement from the Governor-General says this tour is about understanding what the Murray-Darling Basin and its people are facing," he said.

"I don't believe she'll get a full understanding if she leaves out the Riverland."
