Govt investigating Henson's school model search

Posted October 6, 2008 10:03:00

The Victorian Government is investigating whether a Melbourne primary school principal did the right thing in letting artist Bill Henson into a school to search for child models.

At the weekend it was revealed the principal allowed Henson to search for suitable child models during lunchtime.

Victoria's Education Minister, Bronwyn Pike, says parents usually need to give their consent before someone like an artist can scout for talent.

"I'm investigating immediately and as a matter of high priority whether the appropriate protocols are in place and whether the principal did the right thing," she said.

"I think the community itself is speaking loudly and saying that they don't feel comfortable if this happened."

In May this year, Henson sparked controversy with an exhibition of work featuring naked images of a 12-year-old girl.
