Coffs flights disrupted by 'extremely unusual' weather

Posted October 6, 2008 12:00:00

Hundreds of travellers to the New South Wales' mid north coast have had their plans disrupted by fog.

The fog rolled in off the ocean overnight and blanketed the Coffs Harbour Airport.

This morning's Virgin Blue flight from Sydney to Coffs Harbour tried to land twice and then had to return to Sydney.

It has now been cancelled and passengers are being re-booked onto the next available flights. The airline is apologising for the inconvenience.

The Bureau of Meteorology says the fog problems at Coffs Harbour are extremely unusual for the region.

The bureau says once cloud lifts the sun will burn off the fog but a line of thunderstorms is also heading toward the area ahead of a gusty southerly change.
