Long weekend road deaths spark safety warnings

Posted October 6, 2008 14:27:00

Police are urging motorists to drive with caution after a deadly long weekend on roads in the New South Wales New England region.

A man has died after his motorcycle and a semi-trailer collided on the Bells Line of Road east of Lithgow.

There has also been a fatal crash at Boorowa.

Western region traffic coordinator Mal Unicomb says two people have been caught driving at more than 160 kilometres an hour.

He is urging drivers to slow down after widespread heavy rain.

"We're asking people to be aware of the fact that the roads are a bit slippery," he said.

"We've had a long dry spell and when the roads get wet, they tend to become slippery."
