Busselton residents petition against precinct plan

Posted October 6, 2008 15:11:00

More than 2,000 Busselton residents have signed a petition opposing the development of a new civic precinct.

The Shire of Busselton is planning to spend $41 million to create the precinct in the heart of the town.

The area would house the shire's council offices, chamber and library.

Petition author Vern Bussell says residents believe the development is too expensive in light of the global financial crisis.

"The shire hierarchy are hard at work trying to sell their project but they're really going to have a battle, I believe, because people are not just concerned they are quite outraged in the way the shire has gone about selling it," he said.

The shire has declined to comment, saying it is still considering submissions on the proposal.
