The Queensland Fire Service (QFS) says a large fire on the Sunshine Coast has been brought under control.

The fire, which started yesterday afternoon, jumped containment lines, moving south and threatening several hundred homes.

But the QFS says the blaze has now been surrounded, with backburning continuing to the south of Castaway's Beach.

Fresh crews from Brisbane are being sent to combat the fire and no houses are known to be damaged.
