Police in Thailand have fired tear-gas at thousands of anti-government demonstrators who have surrounded parliament in Bangkok.

An unconfirmed report says three people have been injured.

As light broke this morning, the police moved in to break up a demonstration by several thousand people who are part of the anti-government group, the People's Alliance for Democracy.

Thai television is showing pictures of hundreds of riot police in the area around parliament house, where the new government was set to outline its policies later today.

A handful of protesters clashed with police.

Six weeks ago, the group took control of nearby Government House and has refused to leave.

At the weekend, two of its leaders were arrested on insurrection charges.
