Condobolin to get endoscopy unit

People living in Condobolin will no longer have to travel hundreds of kilometres if they need an endoscopy.

A endoscopy unit, which is used to screen people for diseases including cancer, will be reinstated at the Condobolin Health Service today.

Greater Western Area Health Service's Jenny Coutts says it will be the first time in years that endoscopies will be conducted in the town.

"There are people who are wanting to have that service conducted in their own town and not have to travel out to places like Orange, Dubbo or further afield," Ms Coutts said.

She says it is likely the procedure will be available in Condobolin once a month.

"As far as the Condobolin people are concerned they will just have a visiting doctor and a visiting nurse specialist who will come in to organise the clinics," she said.

"People who have to travel from properties into town do have to put aside ... a day, a day-and-a-half often. So this will mean that they can come into town have their procedure, rest a little while and then go home again.

"There have been many people waiting for this service."
