Posted October 7, 2008 15:11:00

Forster police are investigating an alleged house invasion during which a family was tied up and held at sword-point at Hallidays Point on the New South Wales' mid-north coast early this morning.

Police say a 58-year-old man and his 49-year-old wife, a child and a family dog were at home around 5:00am AEDT when three men wearing balaclavas and wielding swords and knives burst into the home.

They tied up the occupants and demanded money.

The occupants were unhurt, but the dog suffered severe cuts to its head and shoulders.

Investigations are continuing and police are asking anyone with information about the incident to come forward.
