Community Alliance Party pushes alternative transport

Posted October 7, 2008 16:45:00

The Community Alliance Party wants Canberrans to leave their cars at home and choose alternative transport to work at least once a fortnight.

It is part of the party's transport policy for the ACT election which aims to reduce total transport energy use and reliance on fossil fuels.

Community Alliance Party candidate James Sizer says politicians will also be urged to forego the car wherever possible.

"In that way we are actually easing some of the traffic congestion, parking congestion and the environmental benefits of not actually running those cars at the time"

"There is also health benefits when individuals do these things, or a social benefit as another alternative, car pooling."
