Southern highlands water pipeline on hold

The new Goulburn Mulwaree council has put on hold a water pipeline from the southern highlands.

The council has voted to explore the cost of gaining water from an alternate source, instead of Wingecaribee Reservoir.

The rescission motion has stopped work on the $49 million project, which was seen as a way of securing an alternative water supply for the city.

The council's director of engineering services, Phil Hansen, says the council wants to look at developing a two-way pipeline from nearby reservoirs.

"There's another option which council have decided to investigate further," Mr Hansen said.

"That's a two-way pipeline between two existing reservoirs, one being Sooley Dam and one being Pejar Dam which are both managed by Goulburn Mulwaree Council."
