Holidaying paramedic saves child

Posted October 8, 2008 14:31:00

The quick actions of an off-duty paramedic has saved the life of a six-year-old child at Kingscliff yesterday.

The New South Wales Ambulance Service says Sydney paramedic Craig Perkins, who is holidaying on the north coast, saved the life of the child who was found unconscious in a local resort pool.

The ambulance service's Fiona Kruit says the child was taken to Tweed Heads District Hospital by ambulance, where the outcome was "fortunate".

Ms Kruit says it proves the value of learning the vital cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) skills, which are continually being updated.

"The rates have just changed, it's now two breaths to 30 compressions," she said.

"We urge everyone to undertake CPR training with an accredited agency. We have children learning, we have the elderly learning.

"And as we say, the life you save could be someone you love."
