$300k boost for drought counselling

Posted October 8, 2008 15:00:00

Armidale's Anglican Counselling Service has been given a grant of $300,000 to help people in New England region cope with the drought.

The federal funding will allow the diocese to create a network of services including family counselling, outreach facilities and community development activities.

Three teams have also been created to go onto farms and provide crisis counselling.

The diocese's director, Larry Apthorpe, says many farmers are struggling to cope.

"When you've got resources out there that can reach into people's lives in terms of their emotional well-being and other areas, it's got to have a positive impact on them," Mr Apthorpe said.
