Report recommends legalising surrogacy

Posted October 8, 2008 22:50:00

A report tabled in Queensland Parliament recommends the State Government decriminalise altruistic surrogacy.

Queensland is the only state where it is an offence for people to have a child via a surrogate mother.

A parliamentary committee has recommended the birth mother be automatically recognised as the child's legal parent.

It also recommends the birth mother not be able to profit from surrogacy, but that expenses could be covered.
