Waterfront businesses are concerned about the Hobart City Council's plans to revamp the Taste of Tasmania.

The Council's looking at adding nightclub style entertainment to the event and extending the opening hours until one o'clock in the morning.

Business owners say late nights would apply on the 1st, 2nd and 3rd of January.

One night would be a cabaret night, another a comedy night, and the third would have an indigenous theme.

Business owners are concerned it will encourage more anti-social behaviour in the area.

Randolph Wierenga from the Police Association agrees.

"To introduce the activities they're proposing will certainly put a further drain on police resources," he said.

He says another two hours of drinking is likely to pose serious security problems, and the Council needs to consult with police.
