Second row forward Peter Kimlin says he wants to make the most of his opportunity in the Wallabies squad for the spring tour.

The 23-year-old has been added to the squad after James Horwill was forced out with an injured foot.

Kimlin made his debut for the Brumbies last year and played all their Super 14 games in 2008.

He says it is a shame that his chance has come at the expense of another player.

"It's a bit sad that James Horwill's out," he said.

"He'd had a great season in the first few games that he played, so it's a pity he's out, but that opens the opportunity for me.

"It's good being in the squad now but hopefully I can push for the 22."

He says the tour will be a learning experience.

"Not great expectations, just to learn off a lot of guys who I've looked up to throughout my career like George Smith and Nathan Sharpe and Matt Giteau," he said.
