Expo forges tourism-agriculture links

Posted October 10, 2008 14:30:00

A New South Wales high country food expo is helping to build links between the region's major tourism and agricultural industries.

The eighth Snowy Mountains Regional Food Fair at the Dalgety Showground tomorrow will showcase regional delicacies, ranging from goat cheese to wines.

Dalgety Chamber of Commerce president Julie Pearson says visitors to the High Country are particularly interested in regional and specialty produce.

"Within both agriculture and tourism small producers are that link between those two industries," Ms Pearson said.

"Because a lot of people from the bigger cities and centres, they will come to an area and look for those local products.

"For the local community it's an opportunity for some people with smaller acreages to make a little bit of extra money."
