Floriade a blooming success: organisers

Posted October 12, 2008 08:04:00

Australian Capital Tourism says it is pleased by the response to this year's Floriade festival.

The festival, which wraps up later today, featured night-time events for the first time this year.

Marketing manager Ian Hill says while they do not have official figures yet, they believe large crowds came through the turnstiles.

"We'll get a fully audited independent report in a few weeks time with an economic value figure, but just based on anecdotal numbers coming through at the moment we're tracking well, so we're positive of a very strong outcome for the event again this year," he said.

"The blooms have just been fantastic again, they've probably lasted a little bit longer we've had some new soil put in this year and also a little bit of cooler weather which is great for the garden beds.

"Also the theme brings the whole side of Commonwealth Park together, and I think people are seeing more and more entertainment built into the program and they're really responding to that."
