A Perth man who pleaded guilty to charges of using a mobile phone and the internet to groom a teenager for sex has been jailed.

Keith Shepheard, 50, was arrested in July last year after sending pornographic pictures and sexually explicit text messages to a Canberra teenager.

He had also been planning to travel to Canberra to meet the boy.

Today in the ACT Supreme Court Shepheard was sentenced to two years and nine months in jail.

He will be released in January after serving nine months of the sentence. He will then be on good behaviour bond for three years.
