Debate rejection disappoints O'Farrell

Posted October 13, 2008 12:33:00

New South Wales Opposition Leader Barry O'Farrell says he is disappointed a proposal to debate the Premier in the Illawarra has been turned down.

Mr O'Farrell raised the idea of holding a number of 'town hall' style debates between him and Premier Nathan Rees in the lead up to the 2011 state election, including one in Wollongong.

He says the Premier rejected the idea out of hand.

Mr O'Farrell believes that such debates would give residents a chance to discuss local issues.

"I'd like the Premier to come down to the Illawarra to debate with me, to be answering questions about what's going to happen with the F6, with the Maldon-Dombarton [rail line], with the other services required to ensure that the population growth plan for Wollongong and the region is going to be matched with services and infrastructure," he said.
