Bridge falls trigger police warning

Posted October 13, 2008 13:00:00

Police say a weekend accident where two people fell from a bridge in north Queensland is a sharp reminder to others.

A 25-year-old woman and a 25-year-old man were rescued from the Pioneer River in Mackay on Saturday morning after the woman fell from the Forgan Bridge and the man jumped in to rescue her.

Both are believed to have been intoxicated at the time of the incident.

Senior Sergeant Dianne Bubb says a thoughtless action tied up emergency service resources for several hours and had significant consequences for the woman, who remains in hospital with a fractured leg.
