Near downing sparks call for CPR training

Posted October 13, 2008 14:16:00

Ambulance Victoria says all people working around pools need cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) training, after a three-year-old girl nearly drowned in Ballarat yesterday.

The girl was pulled out of a pool at the Ballarat Aquatic Centre about 3:30pm AEDT.

Ambulance Victoria's John Mullen says lifeguards performed CPR on the girl before paramedics arrived.

He says the girl is in a good condition thanks to a quick response from lifeguards.

"When our paramedics got there CPR had been performed on the girl, she was okay, our paramedics stabilised her at the scene and then took her down to the Ballarat Base Hospital and from what the paramedics were saying last night it was a good outcome, she was okay," he said.
