Simon Rochford

Simon Rochford committed suicide in prison.

The State Government will consider a recommendation to give police more scope to seek the suppression of information which may compromise investigations into serious offences.

The Deputy State Coroner Evelyn Vicker made the recommendations in the findings of an inquest into the death of Simon Rochford in Albany Prison in 2006.

Rochford took his own life after he was named in an ABC report as the new suspect in the Pamela Lawrence murder.

The Attorney General Christian Porter says the Deputy State Coroner's recommendation is worth considering.

"I'm very open minded about the idea of having some form of legislative response to make it exactly clear what the police can and can't do in circumstances where they have some information that they wish to suppress that the media have to prevent any disruption of an ongoing investigation or operation."
