Beadman out of Spring Carnival

Posted October 13, 2008 15:13:00

Champion jockey Darren Beadman will miss the Melbourne Spring Carnival after suffering a suspected fractured coccyx and vertebra in a fall in Hong Kong.

Beadman came off debutant Johnson in the mounting yard at Sha Tin yesterday and fell on his tailbone.

"The good news is that the bones are not displaced, just cracked," Beadman told the South China Morning Post.

"It's uncomfortable but hopefully I will be out of hospital soon and I'll know a lot more then."

Beadman has already lost his main spring contender Tuesday Joy, who bled during the Turnbull Stakes, but he had hoped to return to Australia for some of the big carnival days.
