Posted October 13, 2008 15:30:00

The Kimberley Rangelands Natural Resource Management Group and the Australian Wildlife Conservancy have won the overall prize at the 2008 Western Australian Environment Awards.

The groups were recognised for their work on the Ecofire project, which significantly improved fire management across five million hectares of the Kimberley, protecting the region's biodiversity.

The group has won the overall prize as well as the Community Achievement Award.

Carnarvon's Lex Fullarton won the Community Energy Efficiency Prize for his solar power farm and the Shire of Wyndham-East Kimberley won the prize for Government Leading by Example for its work rehabilitating and managing Lake Kununurra.
