Pair face court over Wollongong rape

Posted October 14, 2008 12:19:00

Two men have appeared in Wollongong District Court accused of a brutal rape outside Wollongong's Glasshouse Tavern last year.

Aleksander Paravinja, 19, of Mount St Thomas and Edward Power Simeon, 19, are accused of raping an 18-year-old woman on July 14.

Both are charged with one count of aggravated sexual assault in company and aggravated sexual assault inflicting grievous bodily harm.

A statement of facts tendered to the court says the victim was taken to hospital where she saw a sexual assault counsellor.

Police seized closed-circuit TV footage allegedly linking the two accused to the scene, intercepted 300 telephone communications and took DNA evidence.

The men are expected to enter a plea when the case returns to court on November 17.

A trial has been set down for March next year.
