'Disturbing hygiene': Sushi World fined $61k

Posted October 14, 2008 14:16:00

A Sydney business supplying several sushi outlets in Sydney has been fined $61,000 for breaches of the Food Act.

The Industrial Magistrates Court has found Sushi World guilty of seven offences relating to poor hygiene and persistent rodent infestation.

It was claimed foods were stored in close contact with raw chicken during processing while rodent faeces were spotted on a bench, in a cupboard and on the top of food ingredients.

The court said the number and continuing nature of the offences suggested 'a disturbing willingness to run a food business without regard for basic hygienic standards'.
