Top towns vie for tourism awards

Posted October 14, 2008 14:28:00

The finalists for Western Australia's Top Tourism Town Awards have been announced.

Bunbury, Kalbarri, Kojonup and Kununurra will vie for the title at an awards ceremony in Geraldton on Thursday night.

The awards are organised by the WA Visitors Centre Association, and aim to recognise communities who pull together to offer an attractive destination to tourists.

Ray Bird, who has chaired the judging panel for 19 years, says he has watched the quality of nominations improve.

"It's interesting that the towns are actually improving in their marks each year and I'm able to say ... even though it won't be announced until Thursday evening, that two marks out of a possible 110 marks separated the top three towns," he said.
