Farmer warns of wild dog packs

Pastoralists say the number of wild dogs in the goldfields has reached crisis point, warning the animals are hunting in packs.

A local pastoralist says the feral dog population continues to grow in the region because most of the pastoral land has been taken over by mining companies and Aboriginal people.

Rod Campbell from Kybo Station says the only way of controlling the feral dog population is to combine aerial baiting with doggers.

Mr Campbell says he has recently seen packs of up to 10 dogs.

"When I'm talking about packs, we're talking about four to 10 dogs," he said.

"Over the 42 years I have been there I have never seen dogs in more than ones or twos ... and now, quite frequently, I see packs of five to six."
