Federation up-beat about pallet maker's future

Posted October 14, 2008 15:09:00

The Forest Industries Federation says it is confident a Collie-based pallet manufacturer will continue operating under a new owner.

Pinetec went into administration shortly after the Varanus Island gas explosion which tipped the already troubled company over the edge.

The executive director of the federation, Bob Pearce, says the company lost a lot of work after the crisis because other industries were cutting costs.

He says a handful of groups have expressed interest in buying Pinetec, which he says is crucial to Western Australia.

"The business that they're in is really important to Western Australia because a huge amount of our manufactured materials move around on pallets," he said.

"They're the only real pallet manufacturer in the state, so the material that they provide is really important for lots of other industries."
