Victoria on top at stumps in Adelaide

Posted October 14, 2008 19:00:00

Centuries to Nick Jewell and Brad Hodge took Victoria to 2 for 352 at stumps on the first day of the Sheffield Shield match against South Australia at the Adelaide Oval.

Jewell hit 164, including 28 boundaries, while Brad Hodge was unbeaten on 100, with David Hussey not out 8.

Chris Rogers, in his debut Shield game for the Bushrangers after moving from Western Australia, also made 63.

For the Redbacks, Paul Rofe was the only successful bowler, taking 2 for 67 from 21 overs.

Strike bowler Shaun Tait went wicketless in his return to first-class cricket after walking away from the game late last summer citing exhaustion.

Tait was used in short spells and returned 0 for 56 in a steady but uninspiring performance on what proved to be a batting friendly pitch.
