Funding boost for child abuse help services

Posted October 15, 2008 12:29:00

The Minister for Child Protection has announced a 90 per cent increase in funding for child abuse treatment and counselling services.

Robin McSweeney has pledged more than $5 million over four years to 13 clinics, including the Waratah Support Centre in the South West and Allambee Counselling in Peel.

The money will also help fund three new services in the great southern, wheatbelt and goldfields.

Ms McSweeney says those areas have been under-serviced in the past.

"The spike is going to be when mandatory reporting comes in and we need services out there to cater for that so I'm really pleased that the services are going in now ready for January," she said.
