Kalgoorlie-Boulder airport to get $2m upgrade

Posted October 15, 2008 13:01:00

The Kalgoorlie-Boulder airport is set to undergo a $2 million upgrade.

The city-council has voted for the installation of X-ray equipment to screen travellers' bags for explosives and changes to improve the handling of luggage.

Mayor Ron Yuryevich says the upgrade is crucial.

"At the end of the day it's coming in at some two odd million dollars, from which we'll get $400,000 back from the Federal Government to help pay for the X-ray machine," he said.

"But the city of Kalgoorlie-Boulder ratepayers will also have to foot the balance of the bill but that's what's required to ensure the air travel of Kalgoorlie residents continues."
