Hope for drilling scheme inclusion in Govt funding

Posted October 15, 2008 13:50:00

A mining lobby group is hoping the Royalties to Regions funds will include a drilling incentive scheme.

State Cabinet has agreed to establish three separate funds, from which the $675 million pool will be spent every year.

The Association of Mining and Exploration Companies says while resource companies will benefit from the investment, a dollar for dollar drilling scheme is vital to ensuring future exploration.

The association's Sonia Webster says they are buoyed by the State Government's plans to speed up the approvals process for drilling applications.

"We're certainly seeing a lot of positive progression in that area," she said.

"It's just a matter of time we would hope the Government would adopt some sort of incentive scheme that would address the issue of declining Greenfields exploration."
