Posted October 15, 2008 15:00:00

The women's marathon gold medallist from the Beijing Olympic Games will take part in the Great Australian Run in Melbourne at the end of next month.

Romanian Constantina Dita-Tomescu, 38, won the title in Beijing in August to become the oldest winner of the event in Olympic history.

She will join Australian Benita Johnson in the 15-kilometre race around Melbourne, while Craig Mottram and world marathon record-holder Haile Gebrselassie head the field in the men's event.
