Man charged over armed robberies

Posted October 16, 2008 08:42:00

A 24-year-old Mayfield man has been charged with a string of recent armed robberies in Newcastle and Lake Macquarie.

Earlier this month, a man armed with a knife held up a bottle shop at Adamstown and a supermarket at Maitland, taking a moderate amount of cash.

In August, there was a similar armed hold up at the Lake Macquarie Tavern in Mount Hutton.

Police last night arrested the 24-year-old and he has been refused bail to appear in Newcastle local court today.
