Evictee wins Gold Coast home

Posted October 16, 2008 09:34:00

An ex-serviceman has become a multi-millionaire in the same week that he lost his job and was evicted from his home.

John Glaister, 46, who spent 10 years in the Navy, yesterday won an RSL prize home on the Gold Coast worth almost $2 million.

He says he has had a tough time lately, but all that has now changed.

"My main priority is standing by the people that have made me who I am," he said.

"This win doesn't mean I'll stop contributing to the RSL or anyone else for that matter.

Mr Glaister says he is totally astounded by his good fortune.

"I actually phoned up the people that you ring to get tickets off them and asked them if it was true," he said.

"When they got onto their bosses and got back to me and said yes, I started to believe it then.

"[It's] a lot of weight off my shoulders and other family members and friends who I will no doubt help out with my good fortune.

"I'd just like to thank the RSL for everything they do."
