Barkly tourism finds new support

Posted November 4, 2008 12:32:00

A host of interested parties have helped to promote the Barkly since the Northern Territory Government stopped funding Barkly Tourism last year.

Peter Grigg, the general manager of Tourism Central Australia says he is committed to marketing and promoting the region.

Mr Grigg says it has been difficult to cover the Barkly from Alice Springs, but there is a positive feeling about the future in Tennant Creek.

He says Tourism Central Australia sits on the Barkly Regional Tourism Action Plan to promote the region with Tourism NT, the local shire, parks and the Department of Primary Industries.

"There are about six to seven strategies which we need to work through and it goes through everything like ... better signage for the town, streetscapes, marketing potential, development of new products," he said.

"The town of Tennant Creek is buzzing actually. It's quite vibrant at the moment, it's great to be involved."
