New city planned for north of Perth

Posted November 5, 2008 13:03:00

The State Government is seeking a development partner for a new coastal city 40 kilometres north of Perth.

The project at Alkimos is expected to house 50-thousand people over the next 25 years.

It will provide 40 per cent of the land required in Perth's rapidly growing north-west metropolitan corridor.

The Lands Minister, Brendon Grylls says he cannot ignore the needs of Perth's growing population.

"It's development that's needed." he said.

"We've been critical of the previous Government for not having enough land available when it was needed and I am hoping that this development can make sure that doesn't happen in the northern corridor."
